It wasn’t that long ago that veganism was very much on the fringe. Recently though we have seen a massive sea-change especially in the beauty industry, with more and more consumers demanding ethically produced products. As part of World Vegan Day, I’ve been looking at some of the statistics showing the rise of the plant-based beauty industry over the last few years. I think you’ll agree that this shows plant-based beauty is more than just a trend.
According to figures, the global vegan cosmetic industry will be worth a more than £15billion by the year 2027.
Over the last seven years, vegan skincare ranges have almost tripled while vegan cosmetic sales have seen a 175% increase in according to The Vegan Society.
Vegan beauty is the fastest moving vegan sector; of all new vegan items launched in the UK in 2020, 82% of them belonged in the beauty category.
Research reveals that 9% of British women always buy vegan beauty products and 47% do so more now than they used to. Nearly 40% of those who only buy vegan beauty products are not actually vegan.
Beauty brands with cruelty-free certification account for 20% of the women's facial skincare and grew by 18% compared to the overall category which grew by only 7% in 2018.
