Ever wondered why your emotions show on your skin? Or why, when you’re tired or anxious, it’s harder to keep those acne, eczema or psoriasis breakouts in check. Heaven Founder DEBORAH MITCHELL explains why this happens and what products can help.
It’s no surprise that during these difficult times every one of is feeling stressed or anxious. Worries about loved ones, the future and money are at the forefront of all our thoughts and having no control over what is happening only makes matter worse. I’m sure, like me, these issues show up on your skin – mine becomes oilier and more irritated than usual and I notice more pimples. This is because our minds and our skin are intrinsically linked.
Anxiety causes a chemical response in your body that makes skin more sensitive and reactive. As an example, if you’re feeling tense you’ll notice you suffer from more spots than usual, due to higher levels of stress hormones including cortisol, which increases the skin's oil production.
Added to that the fact that sleep deprivation can have a negative effect on collagen growth, hydration and texture, it’s no surprise many of my clients are telling me they are coping with far more outbreaks of acne, eczema, psoriasis and allergies.
SO, WHAT PRODUCTS CAN HELP?
If you’re struggling with acne, ensuring skin is clean is essential to keep breakouts at bay. My Cleanse & Foam Wash boasts organic carrot oil and healing vitamin A to rejuvenate and repair; while our famous Divine Cream contains organic mandarin and orange, a natural source of Vitamin C, to help heal acne scarring and blemishes.
Psoriasis is exacerbated by daily grime and pollutants so remove them morning and night with Hydro Cleansing Milk. Created with delicate organic jojoba, it helps to balance and condition while being gentle enough for all skin types. Use Lia Oil Serum to penetrate the epidermis and deliver ingredients directly into your skin; the addition of organic rose and neroli repair and reduce scarring.
If you suffer from sensitivity, it’s important to use products that are kind and gentle. I created my Youthful Moisturiser to bring even the most sensitive skin back to a state of equilibrium. It may feel light but don’t let that fool you – this long-lasting cream is perfect to use morning and night. My calming Chamomile Hydrogel is particularly good for soothing irritation and calming skin.
For those experiencing more oily skin our Peppermint Hydrogel minimises oil secretion, balances PH levels and refines pores. Not only will skin feel fully hydrated but shine on the T-zone is diminished. In addition, use Clarifying Serum to target excess oil. Because of its soothing scent, it also promotes relaxation and induces sleep.
