Interviewer: There’s a lot of talk on TikTok about needing a 10-step skincare routine. What do you think about that?
Deborah Mitchell: Ten steps? For skincare? You must be joking! That’s not good whatsoever. Honestly, it’s just a marketing ploy — people thinking, how many products can I convince someone to put on their skin?
Your skin simply can’t absorb 10 different products in one go. There’s just no way it can. Unless, of course, walking to the coffee machine counts as one of the steps!
Interviewer: So you’re not a fan of the 10-step idea then?
Deborah: Absolutely not. But I do think routines are important — as long as you understand why you’re doing each step.
When I was younger, I didn’t have a clue about skincare. So, I’m glad that people today are more aware. But still, the goal shouldn’t be more products, it should be the right products.
Let me show you what a sensible skincare routine looks like.
Deborah’s Simple (and Sensible) Routine
Cleanse
If you have oily skin, don’t use a foaming wash alone. Water won’t take off oil. Start with an oil-based cleanser to remove the dirt and oil, then follow with a gentle wash. That’s two steps right there.
Exfoliate
Exfoliation is key. I love our B Peel — it’s made from apple and sugar, and it truly gives you glass-like skin. If you leave it on overnight, you’ll notice smoother, brighter skin the next morning.
You can follow that with a polish to refine the surface even more. So that’s four steps total now.
Hydrate
After exfoliating, your skin needs hydration. We have Hydrogels — beautiful, quick-absorbing gels that remove debris, plump, and refresh the skin. You’d only use one, not all three. That brings us to five steps.
Serum
At night, apply a serum. Our Collagen Serum is brilliant for tightening and moisturizing — especially if your skin feels stripped or tired. That’s step six.
Moisturiser
Finish with a moisturiser or night cream. My favorite is Age Defiance. It layers beautifully over the serum — that’s step seven.
And if you really want to stretch it, you could add Bee Venom as a final step — it’s amazing for smoothing expression lines. But that’s about as far as I can take it! Eight steps maximum, and even that’s pushing it.
Interviewer: What happens if someone does all 10 steps every day? Is it beneficial at all?
Deborah: Not at all. It’s too much for your skin. Once a week, you could do a full facial — cleanse, exfoliate, serum, massage, and hydrate — and that’s perfect. But every single day? No thank you.
Remember, a lot of companies promote long routines because they want you to buy more products. Heaven Skincare isn’t about that. We want people to get the best out of their products without overspending.
Our formulas are multi-purpose — for example, our Hydrogels can be used as a toner, cleanser, or even a light moisturizer. It’s about smart skincare, not excessive skincare.
Many of our clients tell us they actually save money using Heaven, because they stop chasing trends on TikTok and start using what truly works.
So yes, I completely disagree with the 10-step skincare routine — wholeheartedly!
Final Thoughts from Deborah
Deborah: At the end of the day, good skincare isn’t about how many products you use — it’s about understanding why you use them.
Start simple. Cleanse properly. Exfoliate when needed. Hydrate deeply. And above all, treat your skin with respect.
