Why Should I wear an SPF in Winter?
Don’t get me started. I was always a sun worshipper, and I probably would have always stayed that way. However, I noticed one day while massaging a client that the skin where her costume had never seen the light of day was so good. The rest of her skin didn’t look quite so good — and that’s an understatement.
So it started me thinking about how I’d destroyed my own skin. That’s why I wanted to build an SPF into my skincare jewel. However, I really don’t like chemicals on the skin. I’m very concerned about them, and I do think chemicals and heat are a bad combination — especially on the skin. That said, my SPF is a natural product, and I do think it’s fantastic. Of course I would say that — I’ve made it!
It’s easy to think about skincare protection in the heat of the sun, when you know you’re going to get burnt. But what about the middle of winter? You’re getting the same sunrise in the middle of winter as you would in the summer. You’re staying out longer, you’re thinking you’re safe, you’re thinking your skin isn’t ageing because it’s not burning — but it is ageing.
Every part of you that sees that ✨ sun — even through the rain, and especially through the snow (because light bounces off snow) — is ageing you quicker than it should. What it’s doing is turning the sugar in your skin into glycogen. That sugar thickens the skin, thickens the eyelids, and can cause brown colouring in little blobs called chloasma, as the melanin tries to protect the skin.
You start with freckles and end up with bigger round patches that can take a very long time to fade — if they fade at all. So it makes common sense not to get them in the first place. Winter protection is very, very important.
The ski season is upon us, and you definitely should not go skiing without using an SPF. The best SPF is our Prism Protection because, while you’re on the ski slopes or walking in the snow and sunlight is bouncing back onto your skin, our Prism Protection is converting into polypeptides to help make your skin look younger.
So you’re not only protecting your skin — you’re helping to turn back time.
Happy skiing. ❄️✨
