Mastering the Art of Shaving

For many men, the daily shave is as much a part of their morning routine as coffee and cornflakes. Mastering the art of shaving – and using the correct products – minimises irritation, razor burn and ingrown hairs, while leaving your skin smooth and refreshed.

Mastering the Art of Shaving

Prepare Your Skin:

Before you start shaving, it’s essential to prepare your skin properly. Begin by washing your face with a gentle cleanser to remove any dirt, oil, or impurities. Next, soften your facial hair by applying warm water – not hot – or a warm towel to your face for a few minutes. This helps to open up your pores, making shaving easier and less irritating.

Prep your skin prepped with my Pre-Shave Scrub. It contains tea tree oil and aloe vera to reduce redness and sooth while promoting healthier, firmer and balanced skin.

Choose the Right Tools:

Use a sharp, clean razor and replace the blades regularly to ensure a clean and effective shave. Additionally, opt for a shaving cream or gel that suits your skin type and provides proper lubrication. Avoid products containing harsh chemicals or fragrances that irritate your skin.

Apply a generous amount of shaving cream to your damp skin and work the product into a rich lather. This softens the hair and provides a smooth surface for the razor to glide over.

My Sensitive Close Shave Cream contains shea and cocoa butter, jojoba and sage extract to ease irritation. Added benefits of chamomile, organic orange, sandalwood, eucalyptus and sandalwood ensure a healthy and balanced complexion. Apply before shaving and lather into face.

Proper Shaving Technique:

Hold your razor at a 30-degree angle to your skin and shave in the direction of hair growth. Applying too much pressure can cause irritation, so be gentle and steady. Short, controlled strokes are more effective and less likely to cause cuts or nicks. Rinse the blade frequently to remove any build-up of hair and shaving cream.

Rinse and Moisturise:

After you’ve finished shaving, rinse your face with cool water to remove any remaining shaving cream and soothe your skin. Pat your face dry with a clean towel, but do not rub vigorously. Follow with soothing moisturiser to hydrate and protect. Look for products that contain ingredients like aloe vera or witch hazel, which have calming properties.

Aftercare is vital to keep skin in tip top condition, and that’s where my Post Shave Hydrogel comes in. Pores are easily closed and soothed, rashes appear reduced and skin remains smoother for longer.

Maintain and Clean Your Tools:

This is essential for hygiene and longevity. Rinse your razor thoroughly after each use. If you’re using a reusable cartridge, replace the blades regularly to ensure an optimal shaving experience.

Achieving a proper shave is more than just removing facial hair – it’s about caring for your skin and maintaining a smooth, irritation-free complexion. By following these step-by-step tips, you can elevate your shaving routine to a whole new level and leave skin looking and feeling its best.
