You may not think there’s much to do before your facial, but there are actually a few simple steps that can help you to get the most out of your facials. Here are our top tips on how to prepare for your facial treatments.

1. Drink plenty of water

To see the best results from your facial, you want your skin to be super hydrated; this will help you achieve that radiant glow we all desire. It’s also important to keep your skin hydrated after your appointment too to ensure your results are optimum. Try not to over-hydrate to where you think you may need a toilet break mid-facial though and make sure you pop to the loo before your treatment starts.

2. Avoid caffeine

You’ll want to be in a state of relaxation throughout your facial and if the caffeine starts to kick in midway through your appointment, it may ruin your experience. To be on the safe side try to avoid caffeine before your appointment and wait until after the treatment before submitting to your cravings!

3. Avoid exfoliation

As the procedure will include some form of exfoliation, to prepare for your treatment it’s best to give your skin a break and avoid any harsh/strong exfoliation the week of your facial, and any gentle exfoliation a few days before your appointment. You don’t want to over-exfoliate your skin as this can lead to dry patches, rashes and soreness. How to prepare for your facial treatment

4. Keep skin bare

It’s not a necessity to come to your facial appointment with no makeup on as this will be removed in the cleansing portion of the treatment, but you should avoid using any other skincare products such as creams and serums on the day of your appointment. This is because some ingredients in these products could conflict with ingredients used in the facial treatment, resulting in irritation. So, to be safe steer clear of skincare products prior to your facial, or be sure to wash all products off your skin before attending.

5. Don’t wax, shave or pluck

To prepare for your facial treatment make sure any facial shaving, plucking or waxing is done at least 24-48 hours before your treatment is due. If there are any small cuts or swollen hair follicles on the treatment area, the skin could become sore and irritated when it comes into contact with products used throughout the facial.

6. Don’t try at-home extractions

If you have some spots or imperfections on your skin please please wait until your appointment before picking at them. Many of us will pick at our spots when they appear but this will only invigorate your skin and make it worse! There are lots of nasty bacteria on our hands that will get into your skin when picking – wait for your appointment and leave it to the professionals. Your beauty therapist will be able to perform safe and hygienic extractions for you during your facial.

7. Wear something comfortable

This isn’t a biggie, but for the ultimate experience, we suggest wearing something comfortable that will feel nice to put back on after your treatment. After all, you don’t want to end your zen treatment by squeezing into tight, uncomfortable clothing, it can kind of kill the mood. However, if you’re coming from work or other commitments then don’t worry, it’s not a big deal!

8. Book appointments monthly

And finally, we suggest booking an appointment every month to get the best results. By having regular facials it means your skin is getting a deep cleanse, an instant glow and gives you a moment of relaxation. Not only this but it also promotes healthy blood circulation, evens skin tone and texture and is the best anti-ageing ritual!
